INDUSTRY LINGO: WHO IS A PM?

PM: Project Manager

There are different types of work that require project management. Projects range from additions & alterations, minor building projects that are large in scale, and even the interior design of a house or premise. Whether a job requires a Project Manager (PM), is dependent on the project arrangement and procurement method. Procurement is a wide topic, and we will discuss it in more detail in subsequent writings.

Let us skip ahead and jump into the role of a project manager.

A project manager (PM) can be an independent consultant. A PM can also be under the employment of a contractor company or an interior design or an architecture firm. The role of a PM can also be competently held by the project Architect or designer.  The PM can be involved from the inception of the project, starting from the design phase to the calling and award of tender, until the project is completed.

The role of a Project Manager (PM) is to ensure that project is on schedule, within budget, and delivered with quality. In a project with a PM on board, he or she will coordinate works from all parties and consultants involved. Either the project Architect or the PM will take the lead at project meetings.
